Cell Site security is unique in its requirements in that vulnerable site are often remote and access is via difficult terrain requiring 4wd vehicles. This impacts greatly on the capabilities of security Rapid-Response teams to get to sites quick enough to catch criminals in action. In addition criminals will simply hide in the bush and wait for the security team to leave site and then carry on with their nefarious activities.
Facts
- A Cell Site needs back up power as JPS is unreliable.
- Storm season is due with raised risk of power failures.
- Generator Vandalism & Theft is high risk
- Standard generator housings are poorly secured
- Door locks can be forced open
- Hinges can be forced off
- Doors can be bent and forced open to allow enough access to remove a battery and access fuel tank
- New trend is to steal components such as Pumps, Starter Motors, Alternators etc.
JNAP have investigated multiple electronic systems and carried out market analysis of the success of various systems:
- Video Surveillance. Great for recording a criminal act. Criminals understand these
systems, even infrared, and will simply wear hats and masks as disguises.
- Proximity Detectors. Known fact is that criminals destroy the system and wait until
security arrives. Security then conclude that the system is down and requires
engineers who cannot come until the next day. They leave – and guess what?
